What is transcranial magnetic stimulation

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, or TMS, is a minimally invasive procedure aimed at treating mental illnesses and addictions. The procedure employs high power magnetic fields directed at specific regions of the brain. In applying these treatments patients experience changes in brain activity consistent with restoration of normal central nervous system function.

Who is eligible for TMS?

In most cases any patient who has experiences major depressive disorder, or what is commonly called depression, is eligible for this service. Some insurances impose additional requirements, such as failure of one or more antidepressants. Nicotine addiction, OCD and other disorders have also been shown to respond to this treatment.

Is TMS covered by health insurance?

Our organizatio provides TMS services through health insurance. We accept most major insurances including MassHealth products, medicare, commercial insurances and Tricare, the insurance of members of the Armed Services.

Is TMS the same as electroshock therapy?

No. TMS requires neither electric shocks, nor does it induce the side effects of ECT. In fact most TMS patients experience minimal to no discomfort both during and after their TMS treatments. Unlike ECT, TMS does not require anesthesia nor does it require the patient to have a ride to and from the clinic when receiving this treatment.

How much experience do you have providing TMS treatment?

Our staff are well experienced with the use of TMS with the lead TMS provider having rendered treatments since 2014. Additionally our organization has sponsored scientific assessments of the treatment and one of our clinicians have authored two pending utility patents with the United States Patent Office regarding innovative uses of this technology.
